Why should a football club have a religion embedded in it `s Foundation (again)?

In January 1888, he issued the following statement.
Celtic Football and Athletic Club Celtic Park, Parkhead (Corner of Dalmarnock and Janefield Streets) Patrons His Grace the Archbishop of Glasgow and the clergy of St. Mary, Sacred Heart and the Missions of San Miguel, and principal of the Catholic lay East End.
This club was founded in November 1887, for a number of Catholics in the East End of town. The main objective is to provide the Conference of the East End of St. Vincent de Paul Society with funds for the maintenance of the "tables" of our needy children in the Missions of St. Mary, Sacred Heart and St. Michael. Many cases of absolute poverty are left unaided through lack of means. Therefore, this main object we have set afloat the 'Celtic' and we invite you to one of our friends always willing to help put our new park in good working order for next football season .
We already have several leading Catholic football players of the West of Scotland in our membership list. They have most thoughtfully offered to assist the good work. We are fully aware that the "elite" football players belong to this city and suburbs, and we know that from there you can select a team to be able to do justice to the Catholics in the West of Scotland, as has been the Hibernians doing in the East.
Once again there is also the desire to have a playground where the great young Catholic men can enjoy the various sports that make them grow physically, and we are confident that we will have many supporters with us in this laudable goal.

Why most of the groups that are of specific nature, such as women's groups, Asian groups, the Black groups, etc, come into existence, usually because they are discriminated against, not given a fair deal or are a minority.
