Why the Vatican is an Egyptian obelisk?

I would like to know the reasons of showing an Egyptian obelisk in a religiously and spiritually. Although I know it has been for centuries, placing a gold cross on the obelisk and having to be at the center of the square still seems to show the meaning of the Catholic Church on the spirituality of civilization supriority other. In any case, I would appreciate how the obelisk came to rest at the Holy See and the reason that it is saved.

Known as "Vatican Obelisk," the oblelisk is in the middle of St. Peter's Square because of the tradition that when St. Peter was martyred by the Romans, who was facing the Obelisk and died watching.
It is of Egyptian origin, but was brought to Rome by Emperor Caligula, about 40 AD and built more or less where it is today. Before St. Peter's Square, the area was Circus of Caligula and later Nero's name (Circus Gai et Neronis) and was the site of numerous executions of Christians.
Of historical interest is that no other obelisks survived the fall of Rome. Pope Sixtus V (1585-1590) made sure that is preserved as we see today. According to one author: "The legend says that in the Vatican Circus innumerable Christians, including St. Peter, were sentenced to death and that the reason this obelisk was later overturned, unlike all others in Rome was to be considered as the last witness of the martyrdom of St. Peter. "
Created as a correction: What should have written was "No other obelisks survived the fall of Rome, except those preserved by Pope Sixtus …" There are a number there in Rome, all preserved due to Sixto . I am not the best at being my own editor.

Much of Christian dogma, and rituals and symbols have been "borrowed" from other sources, then many of the pagans.
Google Mithrism. You will be amazed at the parallels between the Mithrism pagan Rome and early Christianity. Mithrism was the "official" religion of the Roman army, until Christianity was adopted by Constantine.
Roman customs and specifically, the moral code of the Roman Stoics great influence on the content of Titus and Timothy I, II.
In 1586, Italian engineer Domenico Fontana, an Egyptian obelisk moved to its present location in front of the Vatican in St. Peter's Square. The obelisk, quarried in Egypt during the 13th century BC, was brought to Rome in the 1st century. He remained in his position until Pope Sixtus V, as part of its plan to continue construction of St. Peter and turn it into one of the truly spectacular buildings in the world, recommended changing the obelisk of 275 meters from its original site Roman the location appears in front of the Vatican.

ROTFL that is there, along with another 6 or 7 all over Rome. They were brought from Egypt and the Middle East that everyone can come to Christ if they wish. They are those who tear down all?! And the Pantheon - that must be destroyed too, and was once a pagan?! What of Saul - have never come to Christ on the road because he was a pagan and a persecutor of Christians?!
showing that any change may not matter who you are or how they were raised - ALL Can not Stand To love God and Jesus.

because many Catholic traditions came from the pagan religion that was dominant during the time of the creation of the CCR over 100 years after Yeshua / Jesus had gone to heaven.

  5. PROBLEM JPAS A.R.T. says:

Rome had conquered the world. They liked to retrieve the "things" and people for triumphal marches. When Christians took over, seized the treasures.

  6. Jakero Evigh says:

Theft of pagan symbols and twist their own sick symbolism has always been a brand of Christianity.

  7. ? says:

Roman Catholicism began his teaching outside the heart of paganism, so it only seems appropriate.

The same reason they have statues of Greek gods and the names of the Bible have joined them. Because Thet stole.
